You can put this obscure, unusual, world famous caboose to work on your On30 railroad empire! This little caboose kit was inspired by several trips to the Silver City New Mexico Museum. It was also inspired by an article by Keith Pashina in the NG&SL Gazette. Photos of the actual caboose are rare. It once ran up the hill from the Comanche Smelter in Silver City, to the Pacific Load Mine near Pinos Altos.

C.J. Laughren (General Manager of the Comanche Smelter) often rode in the caboose up to the mine workings. One one such night he became ill after riding up to Pinos Altos and decided to stay overnight. That same night the over-loaded ore train jumped the tracks and was a complete loss, with 2 men killed.
